You’re cordially invited to an evening fit for royalty at Fairmont Hotel Vancouver, the ‘Castle in the City’
Completed in time for the royal visit in May of 1939, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth (the Queen Mother) captured the hearts of Canadians during a royal train tour across the country. While in Vancouver, the couple stayed at Fairmont Hotel Vancouver, on the hotel’s 14th Heritage Floor where the Royal Suite resides, and officially opened the property on May 29,1939. Photos of the royal visit, as well as a menu showing they lunched on Crab Supreme and Lamb, are displayed in the hotel’s lower lobby archive area.
The storied hotel hosts Alan Anderson, Canadian jewellery designer and expert on the history of the British Royal Jewellery Collection. As we approach the Royal Coronation, Alan will provide origin stories and anecdotes about royal jewellery, including the Imperial British State Crown to be worn by His Majesty King Charles III. Following his presentation of the history and pageantry of England’s sparkling treasures, guests are invited to sip, snack and shop a curated trunk show of Alan’s royally inspired collection of couture costume jewellery.
